Dia de los muertos, the day of the dead, is like national celebration days, held from October 31 till November 2nd. However people start way earlier to celebrate the return of their beloved ones that had passed away. It’s about honoring the dead and it’s not a sad sort of celebration like a funeral. Much more everbody is happy to pay a tribute to the dead. It is believed the dead return on these days. To make the arrival for them easier, the streets and cantrinas (like a shrine) are full of colorful flowers, much like the lights on an airport runway guides in the planes.
It’s definitely one of the many celebrations in Mexico you should see. Also a perfect opportunity to improve photography skills. I’ve not taken more pictures in just a few days before. Here is a small selection of them.
